چکیده

Furthermore, the interannual variation of summer precipitation is attributable to the variation of heavy rainfall frequency over the HRV. The heavy rainfall frequency, in turn, is influenced by sea surface temperature anomalies (SSTAs) over the north Indian Ocean, equatorial western Pacific, and the tropical Atlantic. The tropical SSTAs modulate the HRV heavy rainfall events by influencing atmospheric circulation favorable for the onset and maintenance of heavy rainfall events. Occurring 5 months prior to the summer season, these tropical SSTAs provide potential sources of prediction skill for heavy rainfall events over the HRV. Using these preceding SSTA signals, we show that the support vector machine algorithm can predict HRV heavy rainfall satisfactorily. The improved prediction skill has important implication for the nation’s disaster early warning system.

Hydrological impacts of precipitation extremes in the Huaihe River Basin, China

Precipitation extremes play a key role in flooding risks over the Huaihe River Basin, which is important to understand their hydrological impacts. Based on observed daily precipitation and streamflow data from 1958 to 2009, eight precipitation indices and three streamflow indices were calculated for the study of hydrological impacts of precipitation extremes. The results indicate that the wet c...

The Bivalve Corbicula fluminalis (Müller, 1774): an Indicator for Heavy Metals Accumulation in the Habitat of Zayandeh-Roud River

The accumulation of the heavy metals Cd, Zn, Cu, and Pb were surveyed in the samples of mantle tissues, crusts and so the habitat sediments of C. fluminalis to reveal the probable biomonitoring rule of the bivalve in the ecosystem. The warm-cold seasonally samplings were carried out over the stations of Zayandeh-Roud River in Safi'eh, Isfahan province, during 2014.  The warm and cold seasonal a...

‘‘Warm Rain’’ in the Tropics: Seasonal and Regional Distributions Based on 9 yr of TRMM Data

How much precipitation is contributed by warm rain systems over the tropics? What is the typical size, intensity, and echo top of warm rain events observed by the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Precipitation Radar over different regions of the tropics? What proportion of warm raining areas is actually attached to the edges of cold systems? Are there mesoscale warm raining systems, a...

Diurnal rainfall pattern observed by Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission Precipitation Radar (TRMM‐PR) around the Indochina peninsula

[1] This study addressed the diurnal cycle of rainfall during the summer monsoon season (May to September) around the Indochina peninsula, with a focus on the diurnal cycle’s relationship to terrain. The investigation used 10 year (1998–2007) Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission Precipitation Radar (TRMM‐PR) observations. Results revealed that the diurnal variations in rainfall over the Indochin...

Using Benthic Diatoms as a Bioindicator to Assess Rural-urban River Conditions in Tropical Area: A Case Study in the Sai Gon River, Vietnam

The changes in diatom assemblages along an urban-to-rural gradient were characterized to assess the ecological status of the Sai Gon River, Vietnam. Diatoms and physico-chemical variables were measured at 10 stations during dry and rainy season. One-way ANOVA showed that diatom metrics and physicochemical variables were significantly different (p < 0.05) between the upper course sites and both ...
